Viggo Mortensen and Amy Adams Taking a Trip 'On the Road'« FirstShowing.net

Viggo Mortensen / Amy Adams

Within the past few months we've seen plenty ofpromisingcastingnewsto indicate Francis Ford Coppola's adaptation of Jack Kerouac'sclassic novelOn the Roadwould finally get off the ground after a 30-year gestation period.Walter Sallesis preparing to shoot later this month with Sam Riley leading and Garrett Hedlund, Kristen Stewart and Kirsten Dunst filling prominent supporting roles. But the casting wasn't done yet asDeadlinereportsViggo MortensonandAmy Adamswill also appear in the film which follows one of Kerouac's autobiographical characters who sets off upon a cross country journey to simplysee the world.

Mortensen will play Old Bull Lee, a character loosely based on novelistWilliam S. Burroughs, while Adams plays Jane (an incarnationJoan Vollmer), the damaged junkie mother of two kids, and Lee's wife. These two characters are encountered once Sal Paradise (who is essentially Kerouac himself) is inspired by his friend Dean Morarity (Hedlund) to go out and see America. It sounds a bit likeInto the Wild, butKerouac's bookwill certainly bring a unique feel to the property. In addition, the film already has a working documentary on the way as Salles traveled across the U.S. in Kerouac's footsteps and gathered enough material for a feature. It sounds like we have a pretty good two-for-one deal on the way with the adaptation.Anyone interested?
