John Cusack Starring in James McTeigue's Thriller 'The Raven'« FirstShowing.net

John Cusack

Cusack asEdgar Allan Poe? Okay, I'll bite, I like the sound of that. ActorJohn Cusackconfirmed on hisown Twitter(viaComingSoon) this morning that he will"play Edgar Allen Poe in fall-a-film {sic} calledThe Raven."If we can put two-and-two together, this means Cusack is starring as Poe inV for Vendettadirector James McTeigue's new filmThe Raven, a period piece about the last five days before Poe's odd death, in which the poet is in pursuit of a serial killer whose murders mirror those in his stories. It sounds like a dark, mysterious project and I'm excited to see Cusack take this on, especially because I'm a fan of McTeigue, too.

Cusack didn't specifically mention McTeigue in his tweet, but did say to"send any poe- gold - my way as I begin this journey into the abyss."Sounds like he's even mentally preparing himself for a very dark project, which is exactly what I'm interested in seeing. It wasrevealed in FebruarythatJeremy Rennerwas also set to star inThe Raven, but we're not sure if this means he's been replaced (because ofThe AvengersandMission: Impossible IV) or playing someone else, like the villain.IMDbalso has Ewan McGregor on the cast list, but we have no clue if he's still a part of this or not. Hopefully all this casting will get cleared up soon!

The Ravenis inspired by the famous Edgar Allen Poepoem. McTeigueexplained to us last yearthat it's"an amalgamation of Poe's stories crossed withSe7en. It's about a serial killer loose in 1850s Baltimore."As for the actual plot, he stated that"at each murder that he does, the killer leaves aclue, and basically Poe is set against the clock to find someone before they die."I love the sound of it and I'm definitely looking forward to seeing McTeigue's vision with Cusack at the front. We'll keep you updated onThe Raven, so stay tuned.
