Sam Worthington Cast in Australian Indie Surfing Drama 'Drift'« FirstShowing.net

Sam Worthington

A whole slew of projects haveSam Worthingtonattached to star in the coming years, but a new film will take him back to his stomping grounds of Western Australia. A newspaper down under,The West Australian(viaThe Playlist), reports Worthington will return home to star inDrift, a surfing-centric drama which will see the actor as a photographer and journalist instrumental in the evolution of surfing from a pastime to a global industry. Combine Worthington's passion for surfing with a return to his homeland, and maybe we'll actually get a decent, heartfelt performance out of him that he's yet to deliver in any of his other endeavors.

Worthington explains his interest in the project:"There's something pure and true about surfing, and there is something pure and true about this script."This is certainly one of the smallest films the actor will have done in recent times with a budget of only $11 million. The actor comments,"I'm a WA boy at heart and to go back there and put something back into my home town is something I am really looking forward to."The project is supposed to shoot in the fall (which in Australia is like spring in the United States) of next year to take advantage of some killer waves and maybe theMargaret River Prosurfing event. Sydney based director Morgan O'Neill and sports specialist Ben Nott will be helming the project together.Anyone interested?
