It feels like it's been forever since we've seen a greatJim Carreyfilm . I can't speak forA Christmas CarolorI Love You, Phillip Morrissince both eluded me for different reasons, butYes Man,The Number 23, andFun with Dick and Janewere all duds. It sounds like Carrey is looking tomake a comebackstarring in Larry Charles' outrageous comedyPierre, Pierre, and it looks like he has another comedy on the horizon.Pajibareports that Summit is trying to snag Carrey to to leadUnder Cover, the story of a recently divorced father of two who joins a youthful cover band to raise money to win the custody battle against his ex-wife.Read on!
Seems kind of likeThe Rocker(which I don't think anyone saw?) meetsKramer vs Kramer, which sounds strange just thinking about it. Carrey has rocked out before in different forms in films likeThe Cable Guy(where he sangSomebody to Love) andYes Man(where he went acoustic with Third Eye Blind'sJumper) and he'll even eventually be taking on a full fledged musical withDamn Yankees. Hopefully Carrey's young cover band will take on some great tracks forUnder Cover. Surely Journey and Bon Jovi will be some great places to start and, who knows, maybe even the audience will want to sing along while they're watching it.
The script comes from Amy Talkington (who wrote thePrivate Benjaminremake coming soon), and being with unfamiliar with her other low profile projects from the past, I can't speak as to whether this is a good thing or bad. I guess we'll have to wait to see who's going to direct, as that's just as important.Interested?
