Back in June we heard about andedgy reimaginingofSnow Whitefrom writer Melisa Wallack, Relativity Media and producer Brett Ratner. Now the project has the attention of some interesting talent in front of and behind the camera, though at this point nothing is a done deal and should be regarded only as rumor.PajibasaysNatalie Portman, who is receiving enormous buzz for her performance in Darren Aronofsky'sBlack Swan, has expressed interest in playing Snow White whileJean-Pierre Jeunet(Amelie) has an eye towards directing. And in case you forgot, Ratner said,"This is not your grandfather'sSnow White."
Apparently the new take includes more from the classic folk tale that was left out of Disney's animated adaptation. The story still includes the witch poisoning Snow White with an apple, but it will also see the seven dwarves as robbers and have a dragon. Few details about the script are known, but if a visually striking and stylistic director like Jeunet is circling the project and Natalie Portman is at least somewhat interested, then it certainly sounds like it has a lot of potential. For now, nothing is set in stone, but since the fairytale re-imagining waspicked upfor a decent amount of cash in June, surely we'll see some solid development sooner than later. What do you think?
