Kate Beckinsale Finds Some 'Contraband' with Mark Wahlberg« FirstShowing.net

Kate Beckinsale

Back in October of last year, we heard thatMark Wahlberghad signed on to star in the remake of the Icelandic thrillerReykjavik-Rotterdam. That project is still happening but according toLatino Review, the film is now going by the titleContrabandand has apparently gottenKate Beckinsaleto join the project as well. The story follows a security guard and former alcohol smuggler on the Iceland-Netherlands route who is tempted back into illicit business by a dubious friend after encountering financial problems. Aaron Guzikowski, who wrote theBlack ListedscriptPrisoners, is writing the American remake.

There hasn't been any word on whether or not the remake will change locations from Iceland (the title change mildly suggests such a modification), so I'm not sure how accurate that plot description is currently. Wahlberg's recent ventures into action likeMax PayneandShooterhaven't been the most well-received (I'm not countingThe Other Guyssince it's not a straight-up action movie), but with a stellar script and Baltasar Kormakur (the original film's star and producer) on board to direct, this has some potential. As far as Beckinsale's casting, she's just an absolute beauty and I'll watch her in just about anything.Interested?
